Manhoef confirms Kennedy fight

First it was supposed to be Jason “Mayhem” Miller. Then Luke Rockhold. Now it’s Dutch powerhouse Melvin Manhoef.

Manhoef on his Twitter feed announced Friday that he would face middleweight Tim Kennedy on March 5 for Strikeforce, in Columbus, Ohio. The news confirms earlier reports from MMAjunkie.com and Sherdog.com.

Rockhold late Thursday posted on Twitter about a leg injury:

“injured my leg gonna take a 2-3 weeks to heal! Thought it best to wait for the right opportunity to make my comeback! April looking good!

After starting his career with a promising 7-1 record, Rockhold has not fought in nearly a year. A fight with the veteran Kennedy, No. 23 in the USA TODAY/SB Nation consensus rankings for middleweights, would represented a significant step up in competition for Rockhold.

Now Kennedy has a month to prepare for Manhoef, a one-dimensional fighter who happens to be terrifyingly good at that dimension. Twenty-three of Manhoef’s 24 MMA victories are knockouts.
