Is the “Phenom” the Middleweight Division’s Last Hope?

In the world of sports, they say there’s no such thing as a “sure thing.” While that may be true, the closest thing to it in the MMA world (for at least the last five years), has been Anderson “The Spider” Silva. He has literally single-handedly demolished the 185lb division and parts of the 205lb division in the UFC. Rattling off an unprecedented 12 fight UFC winning streak, Silva has smashed everyone in his way with VERY few exceptions.

At the time, Rich Franklin was regarded as one of the best Middleweights in the world. He was on his own 8 fight in streak in and out of the Octagon. His previous loss had come to future light-heavyweight star Lyoto Machida at the Inoki Event in 2003. When Anderson Silva stepped into the cage, he took apart “Ace” in devastating fashion. Knees sent Franklin to the canvas in an unconscious heap of flesh and blood.

For Silva, his competition hasn’t been easy. He faced an absolute murderers row of enemies back to back to back. Starting with former King of Pancrease Nate Marquardt, then a rematch against the former UFC Middleweight Champ Rich Franklin, and fininishing up his run against PRIDE Middleweight Champ Dan Henderson in a unification bout. Silva not only beat all three of those men, but finished them all in no later than the second round.
