Breakdown: Shane Del Rosario vs Lavar Johnson

By Rich Chou

February 12th not only kicks off the Heavyweight Grand Prix, but it also marks a truly special occasion for Shane Del Rosario and Lavar Johnson. Graduation day.

After some very impressive and highly entertaining performances in the Challengers Series these rising stars find themselves moving on to the big show as recent graduates of our proving grounds for top prospects. They are ready to prove they deserve to share the stage with the best heavyweights in the world.

Shane and Lavar have very similar fighting styles. They are very explosive and don’t like to spend too much time in the cage. Neither of these men has ever fought to a decision. They look to finish immediately and violently.

8 of the undefeated Del Rosario’s 10 wins have come by KO and only 1 of his fights has gotten past the 1st round. 13 of Lavar’s 15 wins have come by KO and only 3 of his 18 total fights have gone over 5 minutes. He is also riding a 7 fight win streak. Both guys are heading into this fight with a lot of momentum and are hungry to prove they are the future of the Strikeforce heavyweight division.

Expect some serious fireworks and don’t blink cause this one could end at any second.

Oh yeah, welcome to the big show boys.
