An interview with Strikeforce, DREAM and K-1 champion, Alistair Overeem

By Brad Wharton

Some have called him the top heavyweight in the world right now, others have labelled him the baddest man on the planet. All we know is he’s a thoroughly nice guy who’s great to sit down and interview. Yes that’s right, MMABay sat down with the man himself, Strikeforce, DREAM and K-1 champion, Alistair Overeem for an EXCLUSIVE interview about his accomplishments over the past couple of months and the upcoming Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix. Enjoy…!

Hi Alistair,

Thank you for taking the time to sit down with MMABay and answer a few of our questions.
Overeem – No problem, you’re welcome.

MMABay – First up, you’ve had a busy schedule these past few months; have you had time to relax yet following your bouts at the K-1 World Grand Prix and Dynamite!! 2010?
Overeem – No not really, starting next week I will take a holiday and relax.

MMABay – You recently became the K-1 World Grand Prix champion; how did it feel to win the belt and what does it mean to you to continue the proud tradition of Dutch K-1 champions?
Overeem – It was one of my goals and dream and I’m proud that I have achieve them. I showed the world that the K-1 is still dominated by the Dutch fighters.

MMABay – After the K-1, you had a quick turnaround for your bout at Dynamite!! 2010. Was it frustrating not knowing who your opponent was until so close to the bout, and was Todd Duffee your preferred choice?
Overeem – You know what, you get use to it. I know it’s not easy for a promotion to find a suitable opponent for me especially on short notice. So I was very happy that they found somebody. I don’t have any saying in the matchmaking but I was hoping for somebody that can give me a challenge.
