If Josh Barnett Wins The Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Where Would He Rank Among UFC Heavyweights?

Josh Barnett has had quite the tumultuous run as a professional mixed martial artist. He has won the UFC Heavyweight Championship, the Openweight King of Pancrase Championship and beaten some of the best fighters in the history of the sport. However, his career has been marred in controversy because he has tested positive for steroids on three separate occasions. His career has seen the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.

He will get another shot to reclaim some of his former glory in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. His first fight will be against Brett Rogers on April 9. If he were to win the Grand Prix, where would he rank among the UFC Heavyweights?

I would rank him no higher than fifth among UFC Heavyweights, even if he were to win the Strikeforce Grand Prix.

He wouldn’t be better than Cain Velasquez, Junior dos Santos, Brock Lesnar or Shane Carwin. After that, it’s kind of a jumbled mess. He could compete with Frank Mir, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Roy Nelson. I don’t think he would match up well with Brendan Schaub, who is young still, but has a lot of promise.

I would rank him seventh among UFC Heavyweights, behind the top five and Frank Mir, with a win in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix.
