UFC Champ Cain Velasquez Heading Down To Fresno For A Meet-And-Greet On Feb 19th

By The Fresno Bee

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is coming to Fresno for a meet-and-greet with fans Feb. 19.

Velasquez, who stunningly defeated UFC star Brock Lesnar via technical knockout to capture the title in October, will sign autographs and take photos from 1-3 p.m. at the new American Kickboxing Academy gym near Kings Canyon Road and Peach Avenue.

Gym owner and fellow mixed martial arts fighter Josh Koscheck, who trains with Velasquez at the AKA in San Jose, also will be available to meet with fans. Koscheck, who lives in Fresno, fought Georges St-Pierre for the UFC welterweight title in December but lost.

Velasquez, 28, who was born in Salinas, is the first fighter of Mexican descent to win a heavyweight title in MMA or boxing.

Now 9-0, Velasquez has won eight fights via TKO and was named sherdog.com’s 2010 Fighter of the Year. Velasquez, however, is recovering from a partially torn rotator cuff that’s expected to sideline him until summer.

AKA2, the nickname of the gym that opened in November, is at 5150 E. Kings Canyon Road.
