Santiago is finally going to admit he’s signing with the UFC

By Fighters Only

Jorge Santiago will this week be officially announced as a UFC middleweight, Fighters Only has learned. The American Top Team man was the Sengoku middleweight champion until negotiating his release from the organization recently.

His signing for the UFC was strongly rumored last week and Fighters Only has obtained confirmation from a source close to the situation that his signing will be made official this week.

Paperwork is in place and his signing will be made official by the addition of his name to the UFC website. The site will also soon be listing a UFC 130 match between Santiago and Brian Stann.

Santiago is 11-1 in his last twelve outings and 23-8 overall.

He won the Sengoku middleweight title belt in April 2009 and has defended it twice, most recently in a ‘Fight of the Year’ nominated bout against Kazuo Misaki.

Stann took a big step into the limelight with a recent TKO win over Chris Leben, who is very difficult to stop in such fashion. Stann was thought to be heading into a fight with Wanderlei Silva but the Brazilian was extremely unenthusiastic about the match.

Talk about the worst kept secret in the history of MMA. 🙂
