Fitch’s drive to title shot can stop at Penn

Don’t bother reminding Jon Fitch that his win-loss record in Ultimate Fighting Championship compares to all but the legends of the sport like Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre.

You needn’t waste time looking for comment on why his 13-1 mark in UFC has yet to earn him another welterweight title shot when someone like Vitor Belfort returns and gets a championship bout this year despite never winning a match in his current division.

It’s not easy getting a sound bite from Fitch on the perception that his style – which many critics have described as boring – has prevented him from getting another championship match, despite the fact all he does is win.

Fitch (23-3, 1 NC) is only interested in talking about one thing: B.J. Penn (15-6-1) and the UFC 127 main event today.

“I don’t really want to waste any time thinking about anything other than fighting B.J. right now,” Fitch said.

“If I don’t give him full attention and full focus, that would be a huge mistake . I got a job to do on Feb. 26 and that’s beat B.J. Penn. That’s all I care about right now.”
