The “Girl-rilla” has the Title Within Her Grasp

A young prospect gets thrown a chance for a crack at the world title…it’s a story Hollywood has told before. Now, Liz “Girl-rilla” Carmouche is getting that chance.

When Miesha Tate went down with an injury in advance of her SHOWTIME®-televised championship bout with Marloes Coenen, which was to take place at STRIKEFORCE: Feijao vs. Henderson this Saturday in Columbus, Ohio, Carmouche agreed to step in and take Tate’s place. Now, she gets a crack at the belt.

I spoke with Carmouche about how the opportunity came about, her thoughts on her opponent, and the future.

Johnny Preston: In your last fight, you faced the extremely tough veteran Jan Finney, and you were able to come out on top. How do you feel like you’ve improved since that fight?

Liz Carmouche: I feel like I’ve improved a lot, not just because of the added experience and feeling more confident in my overall game, but also in my training, I’ve had different training partners and different actual trainers that I feel have really helped out.
