Wrestler Claims Racial Profiling After Jaywalking Arrest

Shad Gaspard was arrested yesterday in Columbus, OH after what his wife claims was a jaywalking incident that turned into a case of racial profiling.

Shad’s wife Siliana tells TMZ her husband did not resist when a cop tried to bust him for jaywalking as he made his way to the Arnold Fitness EXPO. She says Shad got into a kneeling position to show he was not resisting … but the cops shoved his face into the dirt anyway.

Siliana tells us Shad told her he felt like he was “being profiled” and “treated like a n****r.”

Former UFC champ Josh Barnett, who was with Gaspard at the time, seemed to back up Shad’s version of events on his Twitter page, posting last night, “Shad Gaspard arrested because a Columbus officer abuses his authority. False jaywalking charge + attitude turns to handcuffs and tackling.”

According to law enforcement, Gaspard — who as part of the tag team Cryme Tyme once held the tag team title — was arrested for resisting arrest and obstructing official business.

Calls to the Columbus PD were not returned.

UPDATE: Josh had this to say tonight about this on twitter: “I was there and it was total BS, abuse of authority and EGO driven.”

WWE/MMA: Dave Bautista vs Ken Shamrock

By Geno McGahee

Mixed Martial Arts knows how to use athletes of other fields. WWE does as well, and that is why they work so well together. Former WWE Champion “Batista” is making the move that Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley have made, shifting over to the world of mixed martial arts and is in negotiations with another former WWE superstar, Ken Shamrock.

A Shamrock vs. Batista match is a big seller because of their association with the WWE. It’s a curiosity and that will sell. James Toney coming to the UFC in an un-winnable fight sold very well because it was a curiosity. Batista is a huge guy and is reportedly on a collision course with yet another former WWE guy turned MMA guy, Bobby Lashley.

Look for the Batista-Shamrock bout to materialize. Ken Shamrock seems to enjoy the role of gatekeeper and likes the idea of turning a good buck against a big guy that may not know what he needs to about mixed martial arts. At the advanced age, Shamrock is still strong and still knows how to fight. It should be very interesting.

Strikeforce’s Santos isn’t jumping to WWE

By Dave Meltzer

Officials with World Wrestling Entertainment have denied a Brazilian report that Strikeforce women’s middleweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos was negotiating to join the never-ending list of MMA names to have participated in pro wrestling.

An article on the Brazilian MMA-based Tatame.com said Santos and her fighter-husband, Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos, were at a World Wrestling Entertainment event in California two weeks ago and that she was offered a contract.

Santos has a “champion’s clause” in her contract, as do all Strikeforce champs ever since former middleweight title holder Jake Shields left the promotion to go to rival Ultimate Fighting Championships. The clause, similar to those in UFC contracts, binds a champion to the promotion until they lose. Because of the clause, Santos would need the permission of Strikeforce to appear in a WWE ring.

UPDATE: WWE’s Jim Ross had this to say via twitter just now.

JRsBBQ Jim Ross
We need 65 new followers to hit 100,000. Cris Cyborg deal looks like her camp wants more $$ from Strikeforce. IMO Cyborg not coming to WWE.

So I asked if she had been talking to the WWE, and JR replied with this…

JRsBBQ Jim Ross
Don’t think WWE has ever talked 2 Cris Cyborg.

Strikeforce champion Cristiane Cyborg negotiating with WWE

Strikeforce champion and best pound for pound MMA fighter of the world, Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos is negotiating with world’s biggest pro-wrestling company, WWE, sources close to the fighter told TATAME minutes ago. Without fighting since June of 2010, Cyborg is getting tired of the lack of fights in the MMA organization, and this proposal would change her future in fighting – and get bigger paychecks. Two weeks ago, Cristiane and her husband, Strikeforce fighter Evangelista Santos, attended to a WWE event in California, and the managers of the event offered her a contract. Stay tuned on TATAME to know more about that in the future.

Officials today announced Lashley (5-1) fights M-1 Challenger James Jack (6-2-1) at the show.

The event takes place March 25 at Historic Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan.

A previously announced bout between Phil Baroni and Nick Nolte co-headlines the show.

“We received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from the MMA community following our HDNet debut on Jan. 28,” stated Titan Fighting CEO Joe Kelly, who featured an Abe Wagner vs. Tim Sylvia headliner this past month. “A lot of unique opportunities have presented themselves to Titan since the show, and working with Bobby Lashley was one of them. We are really excited to be working with Bobby as he continues his pursuit of MMA greatness.”

Brock Lesnar Happy To Coach TUF 13

By Jeremy Botter

LAS VEGASBrock Lesnar isn’t the likeliest Ultimate Fighter coach in the world, but he says he’s going to make the most of his time in Las Vegas while filming the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter 13. Production on the show began last weekend.

Fans and critics swarmed the decision to put Lesnar in charge. After all, the former UFC heavyweight champion sports a 5-2 record, leaving him with fewer fights than many of the fighters he’ll be coaching this season. But Lesnar says he has all the credentials he needs.

“You guys can sit and discredit me. But I’ve got just as many fights as Junior, at least in my mind. I’ve been competing my whole life. I’ve got a great coaching staff, guys that have been coaching top fighters and top wrestlers. Marty Morgan is a 16 year veteran at the University of Minnesota and he’s had national championship teams. Luke Richardson, Eric Paulson, Comprido,” Lesnar told Brawl Sports on Tuesday. “I think we’re well capable of coaching underqualified guys to become the next Ultimate Fighter. I’ve got faith in my people. These guys made me a champion. Why can’t we make this eager young kids into champions? I think we can.

Roy Nelson expects Lesnar to pull out of TUF mid season

Roy Nelson has a “conspiracy theory” regarding The Ultimate Fighter 13 and Brock Lesnar, who is one half of the principal line-up opposite Junior Dos Santos. Nelson thinks Lesnar has no intention of following through with an end-of season fight against Lesnar and instead expects him to vacate the show at some point during filming, to be replaced by Shane Carwin or Frank Mir.

“I think Brock Lesnar is done. I think Brock doing TUF is one way to basically take a situation and make it win-win for him. I think Lesnar doing the show is a way to introduce Junior Dos Santos to the American fan base in the way the show does,” Nelson told Bloody Elbow.

“Shane Carwin has no one to fight in June. I think Brock Lesnar will walk off the TUF set and then Carwin will take his spot or Frank Mir will come in to “save the day” and fight JDS for title contention. The reason I believe Frank would be the guy is because Mir is coming off a win and I was already supposed to fight Shane so fans were already hyped to see it.
